e Platinum Music Awards (PMAs) celebrate annually the lifetime achievement of New Mexico’s music heroes and icons. The awards are given to musicians, music supporters, and music organizations or businesses that have demonstrated the highest level of achievement and have contributed significantly to the musical culture of New Mexico. The Platinums are New Mexico's highest honor bestowed upon the music industry. 

This year's honorees are: Antonia Apodaca, Dr. William Clark, Thomas Guralnick, Nacha Mendez, Malcom Yepa, and Hummingbird Music Camp, recipient of the prestigious Lee Berk Award. Learn more about the 2018 Honorees here:

In addition to honoring six major music figures at the 2018 Platinum Music Awards show, some of New Mexico’s finest and most diverse musical talent will perform in a unique musical variety show, modeled after the Kennedy Center Honors.

Proceeds from the Platinum Music Awards show benefit education initiatives of the Music Commission and its Foundation, namely:

Music in the Schools - currently a pilot project with the Santa Fe Public Schools, in which professional musicians and educators deliver live performances and master classes to students. 

ART2ART - this education project pairs a musician with a visual artist. The pair collaborate in an improvisational setting on stage in front of a live audience. Follow-up Q&A with the artists provide the audience with insights to their creative process and the merits/challenges presented with the improvisational collaboration.  

It is the hope of the Music Commission and Foundation that these programs will expand statewide with the continued success of the Platinum Music Awards.
